dRofus is a native Windows application and cannot run directly on the Mac OS X. It is possible to run dRofus on a Mac that has Windows installed via Bootcamp, or a virtualization solution e.g. Parallels. Note that third party tools such as Revit, ArchiCAD and Excel also needs to be installed in the Windows environment for the dRofus add-on and Excel exports to work. PDF reports are generated on the dRofus server and displayed through your default internet browser, e.g. Safari.
In summary, here are 3 options for Windows-only-based applications such as dRofus to work seamlessly within Mac machines:
- Using Apple’s “Boot Camp” to toggle between macOS and Windows – cannot run both Mac and Windows applications at the same time.
- Using “Parallels Desktop” or “VirtualBox” to run both macOS and Windows – can run both Mac and Windows applications at the same time, but will of course affect the resources of your machine.
- Using “CrossOver Mac” to run Windows applications without having to install Windows itself – it may or may not be possible to run both Mac and Windows applications at the same time.
